“Try him in T20s,” Mohammad Kaif backs Shreyas Iyer to play all formats

Shreyas Iyer

Former Indian cricketer, Mohammad Kaif is highly impressed with Shreyas Iyer and wants him to feature for India in all three formats of the game.

Shreyas Iyer is in sublime form. He cemented his place in the tests and the ODIs for India in these past two years. From scoring a century to stabilizing the innings, Iyer adapted himself perfectly within the team. Recently, Shreyas scored crucial 29 runs in a low total chase against Bangladesh in the second test. He supported Ashwin well, and the duo got the team home.

Fans are extremely elated by the Mumbai lad’s performance. After acing in the tests and ODIs, now the 28-year-old will be eyeing the shorter format as well. Former Indian cricketer, Mohammad Kaif heaped praise on Shreyas Iyer and backed him to be an all-format player for Team India.

Shreyas Iyer can play all three formats,” Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif, in a segment with Sony Sports, regarded Shreyas Iyer highly. He termed him as a complete batter and an ideal candidate to be a three-format player. Kaif further urged the Indian team management to try Shreyas Iyer in the T20s as well.

“He is not scoring hundreds but scoring continuously in every match. If I was the coach, I will say that I can bet on him for at least 60 runs. He didn’t look troubled at all, even if you talk about the ODIs. He can play all three formats and has confirmed his spot in ODIs and Tests. You will play T20Is against Sri Lanka and New Zealand before the Test matches, so you should try him out. He is a player who hits sixes and also knows how to defend”

Kaif further added that Shreyas Iyer does not have any weaknesses and that his problem with the short ball can be worked on in the future.

“He is a proper batter, it is not that he has any weakness. Yes, people talk about the short ball but he will get better while playing. Shreyas Iyer didn’t score too many runs in this knock but the time at which he came to bat, when the bowlers were dominating, the ball was turning, he removed the pitch from his mind and just watched the ball”
