Yashasvi Jaiswal’s rapid rise in the cricket world has caught the attention of many. The talented left-handed batsman had an exceptional performance in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), amassing 625 runs in 14 matches with an impressive strike rate of 163.61. This was a significant improvement compared to his overall IPL career strike rate of 148.73. Jaiswal’s remarkable run included five half-centuries and a century, which he scored in the historic 1000th IPL game at Wankhede Stadium.

Recognizing his outstanding season, Jaiswal was rightfully honored with the Emerging Player of the Season award. As one of the reserve players for the World Test Championship final, he had the opportunity to interact with senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane, gaining valuable insights from their experience. Although he didn’t make it to the playing XI, Jaiswal remained determined to learn and grow.

Earlier in his career, Jaiswal had a similar chance when he crossed paths with former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Furthermore, reflecting on this moment during an exclusive interview with The Indian Express, the young Mumbai batsman shared the invaluable advice he received from the five-time IPL champion.

It was a great moment in my life: Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jaiswal said:

“It was a great moment in my life. It was the first time I had seen Dhoni up close. I tried in the middle of games to have a conversation with him. He told me to keep playing cricketing shots and keep faith in myself and to keep my mind at peace. These are simple things but they are very difficult to do in real life. Hence, you need a lot of patience.”

Jaiswal further added:

“I only think about what I should do. I don’t think much about other things. If there are a few things that would enhance my cricket, then I would do it. I respect the game, and I feel blessed that I am doing something which I have always dreamt of. And if I am able to entertain and spread happiness with my skills, that’s great.”
