Ahmedabad Test: Kohli completes 300 catches in international cricket

On Day 2 of the Ahmedabad Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, Ravichandran Ashwin and Cameron Green took the limelight. Ashwin bagged six wickets, equalling the record for most wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy history with Nathan Lyon. Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja became the fourth Australian to score a 150-plus knock in an innings in India, while Cameron Green recorded his first-ever international century. The Australian team managed to score a total of 480 runs in their first innings.

Virat Kohli also made a significant achievement by completing 300 catches in international cricket. He took Nathan Lyon’s catch at first slip on Ashwin’s delivery to end Australia’s first innings. This was his 109th catch in Test cricket, surpassing the legendary Sunil Gavaskar’s tally of 108 catches.

BOWLERS ARE TOILING HARD ON THIS AHMEDABAD WICKET

Virat Kohli’s tally of 109 catches in 108 Tests places him second among Indian cricketers. He trails Sachin Tendulkar, who has 115 catches in 200 Tests, by just six catches. Among active cricketers, Kohli has taken the most number of catches in Tests. In contrast, Ajinkya Rahane, who has played 82 Tests, has 99 catches. The legendary Rahul Dravid holds the record for most catches among Indian cricketers in Tests with 209 catches in 163 matches.

In ODIs, Kohli has taken 141 catches in 271 matches, second only to Mohammad Azharuddin’s 156 catches in 334 matches. Meanwhile, Kohli has 50 catches in 115 T20Is, with Rohit Sharma ahead of him with 58 catches in 148 matches.

In the ongoing Test in Ahmedabad, Australia are ahead of India by 192 runs in their first innings. However, India will aim to cut down the lead on Day 4 of the match. The team will try to narrow the gap and reach closer to Australia’s first innings total of 480.
