Chris Gayle takes a sly dig at Punjab Kings’ ex-head coach Anil Kumble

Former West Indies player, Chris Gayle recently took a sly dig at Punjab Kings’ ex-head coach Anil Kumble.

They were recently a part of a talk show during the IPL mini-auction where they shared a lot of jokes and had fun.

Gayle played under Kumble’s coaching when he was part of the Punjab Kings last season. He played his last IPL match in September last year.

Says Gayle,

I might be on the unlucky side, or should I say… (looks at Kumble) what should I say? I have been on the unlucky side a few times. Anil is not there now. He was a part of it but he chopped and changed me, that is a reason why he is sitting next to me now. They chopped and changed him. You know what I am saying? Hopefully, it can be a better cause this time around.

Kumble also had a witty reply for Gayle during this conversation. He said,

Both of us are on the same page.

Earlier this year, Punjab Kings decided to end their ties with Anil Kumble along with skipper Mayank Agarwal.

Kumble has been a part of the Punjab Kings’ setup for three IPL seasons. In 2020, he was elevated to both head coach and director of operations by the franchise.

Under Kumble, Punjab Kings lost 23 games and won 19 in the last three seasons of the tournament.

Gayle on the other hand was a No.3 batter in the Punjab Kings’ lineup. However, the move did not much work in the favor of the franchise.

In IPL 2021, Gayle managed to amass only 193 runs and he was also not a part of many of the franchise’s games last year.

Gayle played only 10 matches in his last IPL season and overall played in four seasons for Punjab Kings.

Sam Curran goes to Punjab Kings yet again and becomes the costliest buy

On the other hand, Sam Curran has rejoined his former franchise Punjab Kings as he has been bought for 18.5 crores.

He is now the costliest buy in the auction as Punjab Kings went all out to buy Curran once again.

Veteran India batter Shikhar Dhawan is going to lead the franchise in the next season of the IPL.
