Deepak Chahar declares fitness ahead of IPL 2023 final showdown

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar’s remarkable return in IPL 2023 is commendable, considering his earlier injury against Mumbai Indians. In Qualifier 1 against Gujarat Titans, the right-arm seamer demonstrated his prowess by taking two wickets for 29 runs in four overs, propelling CSK to their record tenth final.

Notably, Deepak Chahar’s dismissals of Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha played a pivotal role in dismantling GT’s batting lineup. In addition, he secured the final catch of the match, sprinting from mid-on to dismiss Mohammed Shami. Despite appearing to pull a muscle during the catch, Chahar reassured everyone about his fitness, stating that everything was okay.

“Everything’s okay, one more to go. I think the length, we saw them bowling, it was sticking and we decided to bowl a full length, didn’t experiment too much, let them (the batters) take the risks. Chasing 170 in a semi-final with the crowd against you is difficult. We have the belief, we have done it so many times (on reaching the finals), the benefit of having seniors in big contests matter a lot, we have been there previously and it does help,”

Chahar said.

CSK reached their 10th IPL final

Following his injury in the match against Mumbai, Chahar made a remarkable comeback in CSK’s tenth game against Lucknow Super Giants. He impressively claimed 12 wickets in the subsequent five matches, making a statement with his return. In the ongoing tournament, Chahar has amassed a total of 12 wickets from nine matches, boasting an average of 21.58 and an economy rate of 8.63. As a result, CSK successfully secured their spot in the 10th IPL final.

Despite struggling with injuries and missing IPL 2022, Chahar has defied the odds and delivered an outstanding performance. CSK advanced to the IPL final by defeating Gujarat Titans by 15 runs in the first qualifier on May 23. The final match is scheduled for May 28 in Ahmedabad. CSK set a target of 172/7, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s impressive 60 off 44. In response, GT were dismissed for 157, with all CSK bowlers contributing to the victory.
