IPL 2023: Sunrisers Hyderbad clashed with Punjab Kings on a Sunday night. SRH won the toss and elected to bowl first. Shikhar Dhawan, PBKS captain told they also wanted to bat only. The Sri Lanka player Bhanuka Rajapaksa did not play. Mathew Short replaced him in the playing. Shikhar hold up the one end and wickets were falling so quickly in the opposite end.
Dhawan scored 99 runs in 66 balls reamaining not out till the end of the innnings. PBKS scored 144 runs in 20 overs. SRH chased the target with 17 runs to left in 20 overs. Rahul Tripathi and SRH’s new captain Aiden Markram were the star batters in the chase.

“I must commend Shikhar Dhawan, I think this was one of the best innings I have ever seen in T20 cricket. You have to respect how he farmed the strike and controlled the game and scored 99 off such a small total.”
He further added that
“Some times I got the feeling that he would wrestle the momentum away from us. But this looked like a good track from the 3rd, 4th over, there was not much swing. We just had to bat normal and gather some runs. There were some shaky moments in the beginning, but I was very positive”
SRH’s bowlers helped them to win the first match of the season. The former Mumbai Indians player Mayank Markande took 4 wickets in his debut match for SRH. The victims for him includes Sam Curran and Shahrukh Khan.
