However, Dhoni also advised the 20-year-old not to play red-ball cricket and stick to the limited-overs format. Pathirana received the Player of the Match award for his performance.

Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by six wickets

Chennai Super Kings put up a clinical show against Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2023 clash on May 6. They restricted Mumbai to a low total, and their batters then chased it down with ease. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway provided a solid start to Chennai. Conway played an impressive knock of 44 runs off 42 deliveries, whereas Gaikwad scored 30 runs.

Ajinkya Rahane also contributed with 21 runs, while Shivam Dube remained unbeaten on 26 runs off just 18 balls. The Chennai batters showed resilience and chased down the target of 140 runs comfortably. They registered their sixth victory of the season and are currently in second place on the IPL points table with 13 points in 11 matches.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians had a forgettable day, as their batting collapsed in front of Chennai’s bowlers. Despite a good bowling performance by Jofra Archer and others, their total proved to be insufficient for their bowlers to defend. Mumbai Indians are currently in sixth place in the IPL points table with 10 points in 10 games.
