Dwayne Bravo advises CSK bowlers to focus on pace and yorkers

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai’s bowling coach, Dwayne Bravo, said that bowling yorkers without pace is ineffective. He emphasized the importance of mastering the skill of bowling yorkers, particularly during the death overs. Bravo revealed the ‘secret formula’ for death bowling success but also encouraged players to develop their unique style. Chennai Super Kings are gearing up to face Mumbai Indians in their next match.

MS Dhoni was unhappy with the bowling performance of his team, Chennai Super Kings, despite their win against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023. He even joked about leaving the captaincy if they didn’t improve. The pacers had conceded many runs in the first two matches, and it is an area where the team needs to improve quickly.

Bravo said:

“There is a particular template to follow, we all in the bowling group (Eric Simons) and the coach (Stephen Fleming) are on the same page and understand the philosophy of bowling. So it’s a work in progress. It is impossible to try and coach the players the way I did in my time when I used to play and bowl in the back (death). They (bowlers) have to develop their own style and we have to encourage them and stick to the basics.”

You won’t survive if you don’t have pace or ability to bowl yorkers: Dwayne Bravo

“Best is always the yorker, but it’s one of the most difficult (deliveries) to bowl. You have to really put in the hours to practice and get other options over and around the wicket, bowling wide, bowling straight and so on. It is the most important for bowling and last game, there was a big improvement from the first game. We bowled like three yorkers and it’s very important to improve that,”

Bravo further added.

Dwayne Bravo emphasized the importance of bowling yorkers for pacers. He stated that they are the safest option, especially when the bowler is under pressure. Bravo thinks that batsmen find it challenging to hit yorkers, making it a necessary skill for any death bowler. He also urged his players to develop their own style of bowling and to execute yorkers effectively.
