On Monday, April 3, MS Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings‘ skipper, demonstrated his destructive best by hitting two maximums against Lucknow Super Giants’ ace pacer Mark Wood in just two balls. Even at the age of 41, the wicketkeeper-batsman continues to captivate the crowd with his towering sixes and aggressive playing style. Rashid Latif, former Pakistan captain, also showered lavish praise on the CSK captain, placing him in the same league as Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar.
“Look at the way he (MS Dhoni) batted. He faced just 2-3 balls and showed what he has always been capable of. He is the most famous player. We have seen Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, even Virat Kohli. But Dhoni, and the way he conducts himself on the field and the following that he has, there is a different vibe and intensity to it altogether. Outstanding,”
Latif said.
MS is easily the greatest ever Indian captain: Rashid Latif
During his impressive cameo against KL Rahul’s Super Giants, MS Dhoni achieved the milestone of scoring 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite playing in the middle-order, Dhoni became the seventh player to reach this feat, following the likes of Kohli, Dhawan, Warner, Rohit Sharma, Raina, and AB de Villiers. Rashid Latif also showered massive praise on the 41-year-old for his contribution to the Indian national team and for etching his name in the record books.
“He has scored 5000 runs in IPL alone. Dhoni has always had a golden template. His history has been written with gold – for India, for world cricket. You and I can say whatever we like but it won’t make a difference. He is easily the greatest ever Indian captain, and also a wicketkeeper batter. There is no doubt there,”
Latif further added.
