The omission of batsman Sarfaraz Khan from India’s Test squad for the upcoming series against West Indies has sparked controversy, with former captain Sourav Ganguly voicing support for the 25-year-old. Ganguly believes that Sarfaraz, who has excelled in domestic cricket, deserves a place in the Test team.

Despite consistently performing well in domestic cricket, Sarfaraz has been consistently overlooked by selectors. This has led to further controversy as younger players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal received their maiden call-ups instead. Ganguly pointed out that Jaiswal was selected based on his impressive performances in the Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy, and Duleep Trophy. He argued that Sarfaraz should also be given an opportunity considering the significant number of runs he has scored in the past three years.

“I think Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored tons of runs in Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy, Duleep Trophy. And I think that’s why he is in the squad. I feel for Sarfaraz Khan. At some point, he should get an opportunity for the amount of runs that he has scored in the past three years,”

Ganguly said.

Abhimanyu Easwaran should get a chance in future: Ganguly

Former BCCI president Ganguly expressed surprise over the exclusion of Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sarfaraz Khan from the team. He emphasized the need to give both players a chance in the future. Ganguly also commended the selection of Jaiswal for the upcoming tour.

“And same thing for Abhimanyu Easwaran for the tons of runs he has scored in the last five to six years. I am surprised that both of them have been omitted but they should get a chance in future. But Yashasvi Jaiswal is a good selection,”

he further added.
