India vs Sri Lanka

India comprehensively won the first T20I against Sri Lanka yesterday at Lucknow.

India’s batters put up a great show with Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer both notching up half-centuries.

While Kishan scored 89 off 56 balls, Shreyas scored an unbeaten 57 off 28 balls.

India put up a massive total of 199/2 in their 20 overs.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, got the first shock right at the first ball of the second innings.

Charith Asalanka tried to keep up the momentum of his team and scored his fifty in the process and remained unbeaten till the end.

The visitors could only manage 137/6 in their 20 overs and India registered a 62-run win.

The bowling unit was spot on for India as Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Venkatesh Iyer took 2 wickets apiece, while Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja took 1-1 wicket each.

Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka captain was very disappointed with his team’s performance in all three departments. Added that he missed the services of Hasranga and Theekshana and praised Asalanka’s batting and hoped that he would continue to carry on in the same way. Said that Chameera is their only bowler and he will use him both at the start and at the death overs.

Rohit Sharma, India captain said that Ishan batted brilliantly in the match and constructed his innings well. Praised the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja into the squad. Mentioned a bit about the ground at Lucknow and how it tests the batsmen. Also mentioned that the fielding was a bit poor and they would rectify their errors.

India and Sri Lanka will now lock horns at Dharamsala for the 2nd T20I due to be played on Saturday, 26th of February.
