Jofra Archer undergoes minor elbow procedure during IPL 2023

Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer, the English pacer, has recently undergone a minor procedure on his right elbow in Belgium, which has kept him out of Mumbai Indian’s latest IPL match against the Gujarat Titans on April 25. This marks Archer’s fifth medical treatment in the last 25 months, which has raised doubts about his fitness status.

Though he is declared fit, the 28-year-old was not included in the team for the recent game. According to reports, Belgian surgeon Roger van Riet performed the surgery. No one has made an official statement regarding Archer’s return to the IPL, so it is uncertain whether the injury will still keep him out for about four weeks, as it was originally believed.

Gujarat defeat Mumbai by 55 runs in Jofra Archer’s absence

Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack looked weak without the services of Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer. GT opener Shubman Gill played a brilliant half-century. While David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, and Rahul Tewatia wreaked havoc towards the end of the innings, making Mumbai’s bowlers seem clueless.

Arjun Tendulkar started well but he didn’t impress the captain to get the ball in the death overs. Cameron Green and Riley Meredith leaked a lot of runs, making it challenging for Mumbai during their chase. However, the five-time champions needed a rapid start, but unfortunately, they lost wickets in quick succession. Skipper Hardik Pandya gave GT their first breakthrough as Rohit Sharma had to walk back to the pavilion in the second over.

Moreover, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tim David all failed to make the most of the opportunity. As Mumbai could only post 152 runs on the board, losing the game by 55 runs. Consequently, they remain seventh on the IPL Points Table, while Gujarat, with five wins, has moved to number two.
