Kieron Pollard will take on a new role as the batting coach for the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming 16th edition of the IPL. He has already arrived in India to join the team for the pre-season camp. The franchise welcomed him back with a special Instagram video titled “the big man returns,” where the younger players of the team spoke about the legendary all-rounder. Pollard was also seen in a jovial mood, and he introduced himself to the squad by saying, “Don’t refer to me as a coach. Just call me Polly.”

Kieron Pollard expressed his enthusiasm for his new role as Mumbai Indians’ batting coach while speaking from the training ground’s sidelines. He talked about his connection with the “Mumbai Indians family” and reminisced about his playing days.

“The people of Mumbai have done a lot for me as an individual. I guess I have done something for them from a player’s perspective as well. The bond that we have is more than just cricket matches.”

Known for his on-field impact, Kieron Pollard has been a valuable mentor for young cricketers due to his extensive experience. Many times, the Trinidadian all-rounder was seen helping the emerging players. The Mumbai Indians batsmen appear to be keen to learn from his expertise. The players are excited to have Pollard as their batting coach, with TitaK Verma, a 20-year-old member of the team, expressing his enthusiasm by saying:

“Last year, I was sharing the dressing room with him and this year, he is our coach.”

During his playing days, Kieron Pollard was a reliable player in the middle order for the Mumbai Indians. He played for the team for 12 seasons, contributing to all five of the franchise’s IPL trophies. In his IPL career, Pollard has appeared in 189 matches, scoring 3412 runs and taking 69 wickets. He retired in 2022 after a decorated career with Mumbai.
