The Mumbai Indians, five-time IPL champions, have kicked off their preparations for the upcoming season of IPL 2023. The team has started to assemble in Mumbai, including the players, coaching team, and support staff, and they conducted their first outdoor session, which involved on-field training and strength and conditioning assessments.

Leading the session was Mark Boucher, Mumbai Indians’ new head coach, who was joined by the coaching team of Shane Bond, the bowling coach, and James Pamment, the fielding coach. They provided guidance and support to the players during their initial training.

In his first address to the team before training began, Coach Mark Boucher set the context for what he expected the group to focus on during the initial sessions. This will help the players and coaches to become more familiar with each other.

MUMBAI WILL START THEIR CAMPAIGN AGAINST RCB ON 2ND APRIL

Coach Boucher said:

“The first couple of days are more about knowing the teammates, understanding the playing style, level of fitness and creating a base to get into the technical training. We can’t do anything in cricket without a base, so the next set of training sessions will be to build a base and keep evaluating ourselves, have chats with the coaches and focus on technical training, cricketing skills and skill sets. There will some nervousness, and that is absolutely fine, its natural. I want us to enjoy ourselves.”

During the first practice session for IPL 2023, several Mumbai Indian players including Arjun Tendulkar and international duo Dewald Brevis and Duan Jansen, trained under the guidance of the coaching team led by Mark Boucher. Later in the evening, Batting Coach Kieron Pollard joined the session. The team is gearing up for their first match against RCB. The game will be at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 2, 2023, at 07:30 p.m. IST.
