KKR batsman Nitish Rana sustains ankle injury during practice session

Nitish Rana - Kolkata Knight Riders - KKR

KKR has received another setback as reports suggest that Nitish Rana suffered an ankle injury during a practice session at Eden Gardens on March 23. This is the third significant injury in the KKR camp ahead of the 2023 IPL season. Lockie Ferguson is currently nursing a hamstring injury and is likely to be sidelined for the first week of the IPL.

Shreyas Iyer might miss the first half of the tournament due to a recurring lower back issue. Before the injury, Rana had batted in two separate nets and faced KKR’s spinners and net bowlers. One of the balls struck him on the left ankle, which forced him to stop practising. However, Rana confirmed that it was not a major injury when approached by Sportskeeda.

After the injury, Rana expressed discomfort as he took off his shoes and socks for medical attention. He remained on the ground for some time before getting up and limping to the other side of the field. Despite the injury, he stayed with the rest of his team until the end of the training session.

KKR will take on PBKS in their IPL 2023 opener

KKR’s upcoming IPL season will see Nitish Rana play alongside West Indian cricketers Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. However, there is speculation that Rana’s ankle injury may worsen, causing a setback to KKR’s batting lineup. Nevertheless, there has been no official announcement regarding the injury and it is believed that Rana will recover quickly.

As a precautionary measure, KKR has cancelled their practice session scheduled for Saturday and instead, the players will undergo a gym session. KKR’s first practice match is scheduled to take place against the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) XI on March 25.

In their upcoming IPL 2023 campaign, KKR will take on Punjab Kings in their second match at the Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on April 1, as per the IPL 2023 schedule.
