The Gujarat Giants have named Beth Mooney as their captain for the WPL’s inaugural season and Sneh Rana has been named vice-captain.

Mooney has a stellar T20 record, having scored 2350 runs in 83 matches at a strike rate of 124.60 and an average of 40.51. She has two international hundreds and 18 fifties in the format as well.

MOONEY WAS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH IN T20 WC FINAL

Mooney’s most recent fifty came in the recent Women’s T20 World Cup Final. She scored a match winning 74*(54) against South Africa and was given the Player of the Match for that.

After Gujarat Giants announced Mooney as their captain, Mooney said:

“I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead Gujarat Giants in the historic WPL’s inaugural edition in 2023. The squad is keen to get the ball rolling soon. And put out an entertaining and effective brand of cricket in the debut season of WPL. It will be absolutely fantastic to have the likes of Sneh as my deputy and Mithali Raj and Rachael Haynes as pivotal parts of the team.”

Rana has appeared in 25 Twenty20 Internationals for India, taking 24 wickets at a 6.21 economy rate. She made her national debut in 2021, after a six-year absence, on India’s tour of England, and she has remained in India’s white-ball plans ever since.

Sneh Rana after being announced as VC said:

“Being the vice-captain of Gujarat Giants is a indeed huge responsibility. And also I am keenly looking forward to putting up a great show for the debut edition of the WPL. Along with captain Beth Mooney, I hope to lead a strong and talented squad during the tournament.

Gujarat Giants will play their first game against Mumbai Indians on 4th March. It will be the first ever game of the WPL.
