Rohit will be MI’s ‘Trump Card’ in IPL 2023: Sunil Gavaskar

Mahela Jayawardene - Rohit Sharma - Mumbai Indians

Is a turnaround on the cards for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 after their poor performance last season? According to legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, MI is a force to be reckoned with and is a strong contender for the title. Even without their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, Gavaskar believes that Rohit Sharma and his team have what it takes to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs.

Jasprit Bumrah will not be participating in the entire IPL 2022. He is unavailable due to an injury that is expected to keep him out of action for six months. The Mumbai Indians have strengthened their squad by acquiring Cameron Green (INR 17.5 crore). Prior to the 2022 edition, Mumbai Indians competed against Rajasthan Royals in a fierce bidding war and emerged victorious in signing Jofra Archer, a pacer from England.

Sunil Gavaskar has made a confident prediction about the Mumbai Indians team. He stated that captain Rohit Sharma will have a remarkable IPL 2023. He also expressed his admiration for Jofra Archer and referred to him as Mumbai’s ace for the upcoming season.

“Jofra Archer is one (trump card) for sure. Ishan Kishan after his ODI double hundred will be somebody to watch out as well. And I think Rohit Sharma will do something really special this season,”

Gavaskar said.

Mumbai Indians have made several changes to their squad for the IPL 2023 season. They have signed Piyush Chawla, Duan Jansen, Vishnu Vinod, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, and Raghav Goyal at the auction. On the other hand, Kieron Pollard, Daniel Sams, Fabian Allen, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande, and Riley Meredith have left the team. Additionally, MI has also acquired Jason Behrendorff from Royal Challengers Bangalore. They will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening match of IPL 2023 on April 2nd.
