India’s recent struggles against the left-arm pace of Mitchell Starc in the ongoing ODI series against Australia have prompted the team to consider adding a left-arm pacer to their World Cup squad. The team is particularly concerned about the possible absence of Jasprit Bumrah due to injury. In this regard, Thangarasu Natarajan, who has impressed in domestic cricket and IPL, could be a contender for a place in the squad if he performs well in the upcoming IPL 2023.

In IPL 2020, Natarajan performed impressively, taking 16 wickets with his breakthrough season. His exceptional ability to bowl consistent yorkers in the death overs earned him the title ‘Yorker King.’ His impressive performances led to his selection for the Australian tour later that year. Though initially he was picked as a net bowler. He became the first Indian cricketer to debut across all three formats during the same tour. Natarajan was also part of the Indian Test team that made a remarkable comeback to win a famous series against Australia.

Injuries hampered Natarajan’s career, and he played only two matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021.

He made a comeback in IPL 2022 and took 18 wickets in 11 matches. However, he was unable to make it to the T20 World Cup squad due to another injury setback.

On Monday, Thangarasu Natarajan displayed his fitness by participating in an intense bowling session during a practice session in Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a video on Instagram showcasing Natarajan’s smooth and elegant bowling action, describing it as “poetry in motion”.

On April 2, Sunrisers Hyderabad will start their IPL 2023 journey, playing Rajasthan Royals in their opening game at home. They are looking strong this season with inclusion of a few dynamic players.
