Rohit Sharma hints at personnel changes for next WTC cycle

Australia clinches WTC title with a resounding 209-run victory over India in the final match. On the fifth day, with Kohli (44) and Rahane (20) at the crease, India required 280 runs to win with seven wickets in hand. However, Boland shattered their hopes by dismissing Kohli for 49, caught at second slip. India couldn’t recover and were bowled out for 234, conceding a significant triumph to Australia. Hence, in response to the defeat, Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, expressed plans to introduce new players in the next WTC cycle, depending on the venue of the final.

“Obviously, there will be some talks around it [team combination] and we’ll see whatever is required and whatever is best, whatever the brand of cricket we want to play in the next two years. Who are the guys that can do that role for us, that’s the question we need to find answers for. And also there are lot of guys, there are lot of players who are doing really well in our domestic cricket as well,”

Rohit said.

We’ll see where the next Final is played: Rohit

“We’ll see where the next WTC final is being played as well, where we play; based on that we will decide what sort of players we want to get ready and what kind of cricket we want to play,”

Rohit further added.

India suffered their second consecutive defeat in the WTC final. Following their eight-wicket loss to New Zealand in the inaugural edition in 2021. The defeat has raised doubts among fans regarding the inclusion of senior players in the team. And has sparked a desire to witness the emergence of new talents in the upcoming cycle. Furthermore, the schedule for the next WTC cycle is yet to be released. Hence, creating anticipation regarding the location of the next final and whether it will be held in England.
