Saba Karim questions Ajinkya Rahane’s reappointment as Test vice-captain

Ajinkya Rahane - Indian Test Team

Former BCCI chief selector Saba Karim has expressed his opinion on the reappointment of Ajinkya Rahane as Test vice-captain, suggesting that he expected Ravindra Jadeja or Shubman Gill to be more suitable choices. Rahane, who was dropped from the Test squad due to poor form, made a strong comeback in the World Test Championship final against Australia, securing his place in the playing XI and reclaiming the vice-captaincy position. Karim believes that Jadeja, who represents the national team in all three formats, deserves the role, while Gill could have been an exciting option given his potential in Indian cricket.

I don’t know why people don’t even talk about Ravindra Jadeja. He’s a regular in all formats for the Indian side and he has had major contributions to India’s Test success also. So how come he’s never spoken about as a leader? He’s irreplaceable in all three formats for the national side and he’s equally capable of leading the national side. I am just saying, there are some candidates,”

Karim said.

When you pick youngsters then why would you make Rahane the vice-captain? : Saba

The selectors made bold decisions by excluding Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav from the Test squad for the West Indies tour, giving opportunities to youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Mukesh Kumar. Karim criticized the selectors and raised concerns about Rahane’s appointment considering his long absence.

“I don’t know why people don’t even talk about Ravindra Jadeja. He’s a regular in all formats for the Indian side. And he has had major contributions to India’s test success also. He’s irreplaceable in all three formats for the national side and he’s equally capable of leading the national side. I am just saying, there are some candidates,”
