Sanju Samson Penalised for Slow Over-Rate During CSK v RR

The IPL 2023 tournament has witnessed several nail-biting matches, and the RR vs CSK game on April 12 was no different. Despite Sanju Samson being penalized for a slow over-rate, RR won the match by three runs, leaving CSK disappointed. With three wins out of four matches, RR leads the IPL 2023 points table with six points.

Samson was fined INR 12 lakh for failing to maintain the over-rate during the game. Slow over-rate refers to the situation where the fielding team fails to bowl its 20 overs within the stipulated time. IPL teams are expected to complete their 20 overs within 90 minutes, including an 85-minute playing period and two 150-second strategic timeouts.

According to an IPL media advisory, the team’s first offence of the season regarding minimum over-rate offences led to a fine of Rs 12 lakhs for captain Sanju Samson. Faf du Plessis, RCB’s skipper, became the first captain to be penalized for a slow over-rate in the current season. During their match against Lucknow on April 10, the he was fined INR 12 lakh. He failed to begin the final over before the cutoff time. So, he had to bring in an extra fielder inside the circle. In a last-ball thriller, LSG triumphed over RCB by one wicket.

Rajasthan secured a win against the four-time IPL champions on the last ball, thanks to Sandeep Sharma’s exceptional final over. CSK could only reach 172 for 6 while chasing a target of 176. Ashwin and Chahal taking two wickets each and Sandeep and Zampa contributing with one each.

Buttler, the Rajasthan opener, smashed 52 runs off 36 deliveries, including three sixes and a boundary, as Rajasthan Royals posted a total of 175 for 8. Jadeja, Singh, and Deshpande each grabbed two wickets for CSK while Ali picked up one.
