Steven Smith is the second fastest to reach 9000 runs in Test Cricket after the hundred in The Lords.

Steven Smith scores century in The Lords

A big was due for him against England. However, he could not score big in the first match of the Ashes. Steven Smith scored just 16 and 6 in the two innings. But the Aussies won the first match of the Ashes by two wickets. Their Skipper Pat Cummins along with the Veteran Spinner Nathan Lyon finished the things for the Australian team in the first match. Nathan Lyon played consecutively 100 matches in the test cricket for the Australian team.

In the second test of the Ashes, the Aussies were made to bat first after losing the toss. The openers did a good job by showing the grinds in the overcast condition. Both the teams made a change. For Australia Starc came in for Boland and Tongue came in for Ali in England’s squad. Steven Smith and Travis Head again put up a great partnership. David Warner scored a fine half century after a long time. However, his opening partner could not go high.

Travis Head missed out on his well deserved century, but he did his job for his team by scoring at high speed. Steven Smith achieved this 9k mark in the 42nd over by sending the ball to the boundary. He took 99 matches to achieve the 9k mark in test cricket. Kumar Sangakkara did the same in 172 innings, but Smith could do it only in 174 innings.
