Venky Mysore says don’t regret on not retaining Gill in KKR

Shubman Gill - Kolkata Knight Riders - KKR

Shubman Gill has not been retained in the Kolkata Knight Riders retention list before the mega auction. Later, Gujarat Titans signed Gill for their franchise. Venky Mysore, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ CEO says they do not regret retaining Shubman Gill ahead of the mega auction. Gill is now the opener in all the formats of cricket for the Indian team. However, his T20is are not much better than his red ball cricket. Besides Gill, others like Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, and Ajinkya Rahane have done well in other teams in this year’s IPL. The way KKR did not use Kuldeep as a bowler was where they fail as management is the fans opinion.

Venky Mysore, the CEO’s words

“There is actually happiness when we see some of the players we have developed go to other franchises and do well — Shubman Gill is an example, the limitation as you know, the rules the IPL and BCCI make. In 2022 auction, we were allowed to keep only four players. There’s always a debate. There is always eight or nine whom we would like to keep, you had to select four out of those,”

Venky Mysore further added that

“It’s never a regret, and the decisions were made based on the set of information that was available at that point. We believe those were the right decisions we made, but it’s always tough to lose some players,” said Venky Mysore

Gill as an opener gives quick-fire knocks in the powerplay and anchors the batting unit in the middle overs.
